Hello Everyone,
I imagine that many of you are asking this very question given the
silence from our end. As an update, the KWG executive met May10th as
a follow-up from our fundraising event and to discuss preparations for
upcoming events.
Our next KWG meeting to which you are all invited is scheduled for
Monday, May 28th 6:15pm at the Starbucks on Richmond and John.
(Second floor of Chapters)
This week, Raj Suppiah will be presenting at St. Joseph's Hospital in
Hamilton on his Kenyan Experience. This will be partnered with a
photo exhibition of images captured by Mike Willekes of the Disability
Service Programme in Kenya. This event is taking place at 5:00pm on
Wednesday, May 23rd . For KWG members in the Hamilton area, this is a
great opportunity to get together. If you are interested in
attending, please contact Meghan McCormack
(sports_chic100 at hotmail.com)
The next two weeks is the lead up to the World Physiotherapy Congress
in Vancouver. The Kenya Working Group will be presenting a poster and
a podium presentation at the event. This is very exciting as it is
not only the first formal International exposure that we will have but
because Mr. Okidi, the Kenyan programme coordinator will also be in
attendance. Members of the group have been working very hard to put
together an excellent poster that reflects our efforts and will help
to raise awareness of the work that we do. I will be showcasing the
poster before the conference at our next meeting.
Additionally there are a couple of events being planned for June that
you may be interested in. There will be a "benefit concert" at the
Casbah in Hamilton on either June 6th or June 12th to help subsidize
costs to the OT students going to Kenya in July. More info to come.
Mr. Okidi will be in town for the weekend of June 15th-18th during
which time we will also be hosting a social event for people to either
meet and greet or reconnect with our Kenyan partner. More details to
come at our meeting.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Happy Long Weekend.
Regards,
